Greensburg, IN – The Greensburg/Decatur County Economic Development Corporation recently participated in the 2025 8th Grade Reality Check, hosted at Greensburg Junior High School. The event brought together every 8th grader in the county, including students from North Decatur, South Decatur, Greensburg, and St. Mary’s schools, for a hands-on lesson in financial literacy and decision-making.
Reality Check gives students a glimpse into real-world financial responsibilities. Each student was assigned a “job” and tasked with navigating expenses such as housing, childcare, transportation, groceries, and more. The goal was to help students understand the importance of budgeting, planning, and making informed choices about their future.
The Greensburg/Decatur County EDC team hosted the groceries table, guiding students through decisions about food costs and family budgeting.
“This event is such a valuable opportunity for our local youth,” said EDC Project Coordinator, Emma Luttel. “Not only do students gain a better understanding of money management, but they also get the chance to connect with local leaders who care about preparing them for success.”
The Reality Check program continues to be a community-wide effort to support Decatur County’s students, equipping them with financial knowledge and practical skills that will benefit them for years to come.
